About Field Hockey

Field Hockey is a fast-paced team sport played on grass or turf. Each team consists of ten field players and one goalkeeper. Players use specially designed hockey sticks to hit a hard plastic ball and to try score goals. The sport is popular in countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, India, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and England. How the Game is Played

The objective of Field Hockey is to score more goals than the opposing team by hitting the ball into the goal. Players are only allowed to use the flat side of their stick to control and shoot the ball, while goalkeepers specialised sticks. A match is usually played over four quarters, with teams working together to attack and defend. Quick passing, fast shooting and very strong communication are most inportant for success.

Major Competitions

Field Hockey has several major international tournaments. The Hockey World Cup is the sport's most prestigious event and features the best national teams and players from all around the world. The Olympic Games also include Field Hockey. Other important competitions include the FIH Pro League and continental championships. These tournaments show the highest level of competition and help the sport grow.
